The goal of the present research was to develop a new and more efficient method to deal with the real applications of the limited computational capacity of mobile devices (e.g., smart phones) and of embedded systems in general. The advantage of such a method, compared to application-specific software (e.g., coupled weather models), is that it can be easily exchanged and integrated in other applications. The method was tested in two applications: aircraft navigation and landing guidance, and aircraft weather forecasting. We present an efficient integration of satellite-based positioning with a real-time forecast model, and discuss the important issues of stability and robustness during execution. The new method is part of the Jeppesen Mobile FLITeDECK® VFR. It is a very promising approach to combine Jeppesen Mobile FD.
