The system is practised in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Perak. The divinatory aspects of tajul muluk are still used to this day with the system of arja, as the Malay word for'sign' or 'interpretation' is the same as 'tajul'.

According to the system, there are 22 different tajul or inscriptions, which are identified by the number of raja (or 'rulers') that they contain, the sukar or'stones' used in the inscriptions, and the number and type of arja in the inscription. The 22 tajul are as follows:
